Production

Within the Rhône Valley newcomers are present over 3 ‘départements’. Its diversity comes from a specific ‘terroir’ of 18 200 ha that represents 23% of the 2nd world largest vineyard in terms of quality wines in the world . Production reaches 837 394 hl and 112 millions.

An increasing amount of red wines are made with Syrah and Grenache grapes :

678 198 hl reds (95 million bottles),
138 442 hl rosés (20 million bottles),
45 660 hl whites (6 million bottles).

Exports :
Encouraging results. Exports increase as the number of bottles sold outside France doubles over the past five years
 
 

In 2001 the exports totalled 250 000hl, which represents 28 % of the whole production, with a value of Euros 50.5 million.

Europe is the largest market for Rhône Valley Newcomer appellations, drinking 202000hl, which represents 80 % of all exports
